"morning devotionals"

I'm in that place where I'm watching Beyonce videos every morning and crying sporadically while I do so. Just throwin' that out there.

dallas deception v. tulsa derby milita

February 17, 2013

Last Sunday, R had one hell of a roller derby game, and thank goodness I was finally able to switch my work schedule around! I've missed his past few bouts, and this was certainly a bout to see! Last summer, R, Meggie, and I all drove to Tulsa for a game between the two teams and the results were quite contentious. (Let's just say it was the longest. game. evar.) So out of all the games I could make time for, I was so happy to have the chance to see Deception settle the score!

AND, to top it all off, so many of our favorite people came to the game, too! We had all the kittens, Darrah and Cody, plus Bob, Jared, and Stephen. Talk about a party!

Sadie, Derby's One-Girl Party. (Not picture: Sadie crying because she didn't want her daddy playing derby after she heard his tummy was a little upset.)
Meggie and Nick. So happy when Meggie can be at a bout with me, because she explains everything. ;P
Annnd, Emmy and R3 were way more interested in all the mobile technology brought to the game. (Seriously, we didn't see either one of those two the entire time!)

The final score. :)

meggie styles

In case these pictures aren't any indication, Meggie has pretty rad taste. In addition to knowing exactly what is missing from any culinary experiment and watching "Dragon Tales" on Netflix (I mean, come on!), she always pops out of her room in the raddest, craziest combinations of prints, neons, and sartorial gumption. Like, this girl has neon green/black printed leggings. That she wears. All the time. I'm just so happy I'm finally remembering to take pictures! (Hello!) Now if only I get my shit together and take a picture when she wears her red/black rose printed pants...

These pictures are when Meg and her fella, Nick, went out to a sushi dinner for their little Valentine's Day extravaganza. I mean, neon-laced Converse on top of the dress/tights? Perfection.

I don't think this holiday exists in neverland...

(Neverland Map print from here)

R and I both have weekly Thursday plans (he: roller-derby practice, me: ballet classes), so we did Valentine's Day early this year. On Wednesday, we exchanged presents, inadvertently matched outfits, went to a lovely dinner at Samar ("The food is so good we can't talk about anything else!") and it was all delightful enough to want to forget how tired Valentine's Day is and instead share on my blog for future smiles.

PS: Isn't that rubber ducky the best? R got me other amazing bath-y smell good stuff and beautiful flowers, and that ducky (THAT LIGHTS UP) still takes the cake! :P

This is PMS.

For lunch today, I ate a big slice of cheese pizza, vegetable egg-rolls, and a chocolate chip cookie, and I'm still really satisfied with myself. Oh, and I come and wailed on a bag of Cheetos. Today is awesome!

On Monday I went to CJ's house after work, and it was soooo gooood to catch up with my brown-eyed sweetie! I brought over some vino and some heart-shaped goat cheese with edible flowers (YES). After the Best Salad Of My Life (spinach, walnuts, gorgonzola, pesto, and shrimp! I'm still thinking about it!), CJ made us Old-Fashioneds and we watched the first episode of "Downton Abbey." Pretty fucking cool way to kick-off the week, right?

"what kind of shoes are these?" "black ones?"

I have the best time doing absolutely nothing memorable with my sweet man, which is evidenced by the fact we can sleep in, watch "Legally Blonde" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," eat at On The Border,*** run errands, did chores, and hang out with Matt and all I can think of is SUCH AN AWESOME SATURDAY.

I'm still religiously convinced that all movies are made better by the great laughs of the people you are watching them with. I'm also religiously convinced that all movies are made better by Richard singing tunes from the soundtrack in a silly way afterwards. (Re: this.)

Thaaat's about it. :)

***Did you know that On The Border has avocado-fries?! Did you know how insufferable your life is after hearing about "avocado-fries" without them being immediately placed in front of you?!

happy list

Saturday, February 9, 2013

1. Sadie cuddles.
2. Emily referring to the giant rocks in the creek by our apartments as "Flintstone furniture!"
3. R3 taking out the trash and putting a clean trash-bag in it's place without being asked.
4. Meghan's predilection for neon.
5. Clean nails.
6. Avocado on my morning toast (instead of butter!)
7. Getting excited to go to the hair salon.
8. Richard not wanting to go to a restaurant because the only veggie option for me is a veggie burger. ("Veggie burgers never agree with you, so that's off the table.")
9. Portishead.
10. Beyonce playlist!
11. R's retard laugh while watching "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."
12. R passionately and patiently explaining sports to me.

These exist, and they are in my pantry, meaning my pantry is officially magical.

fridays never fail

Fridays are generally kick-ass because I usually get off work at 3-4ish and have Saturdays off.

Here are all the reasons why this Friday was particularly kick-ass:
1. I wore my new Happy Camper shirt with yellow skinnies, polka dot flats, and Day 1 hair.
2. Richard came to visit me at work! ("I was just nowhere near the area...") I was so stupid and giddy for the rest of the day.
3. Work was steady and productive and I was able to eat lunch (somedays eating lunch is a low priority during our busy schedule!)
4. Whole Foods did my grocery shopping for me (meaning I sent them a list, and perfect groceries were delivered to my car after work) WHICH IS THE GREATEST THING EVER.
5. Chipotle dinner + beer.
6. R got free tickets to a Stars game, and the seats were great for my first pro-hockey game!
7. We rode the Dart train to and fro, which always makes us feel cosmopolitan.
8. Passed out watching the "30 Rock" finale.

Also, Michelle never curses (ever, ever) but she'll tell me, "I was thinking about you on Tuesday because it was so crazy! I thought of that word you use." "Cluster-fuck!?" "Yes! It was perfect for Wednesday!"

Also, Michelle and I always get lumped together as "Kylie and Michelle." Who won the Guest Service award? "Kylie and Michelle." Who did Phyllis write an appreciation to to put on the Appreciation Board? "Kylie and Michelle."

Also, Michelle and I always get confused for each other on phone calls and even email. I'm always amazed at how many times I'll hear Michelle say, "No, this is Michelle..." or how many times a client asks me "Wait, which one of you am I talking to?" EVEN EMAIL. I was emailing someone from our team's general email the other day, and they addressed me as Michelle for 3 exchanges before she noticed my polite, enduring signatures of "Kylie."

this is a job for beyonce lyrics

One of my favorite things about my supervisor, Michelle (in a long list of precious characteristics), is that she is just as butt-crazy in lurve with her Husband of 30+ Years as I am with Richard. We are so not shy about saying telling each other "And then he emptied the dishwasher, and ahhhh he's the bestest guy everrrr!" or "I watched my honey turn left onto the street this morning when he was driving to work and, ugh. He is so cute, almost called him to tell him how cute he is!"

Because I've worked with women who are bitterly single and I've worked with women who, no matter their relationship status, don't want to hear how personally satisfied you are (even when they ask you outright! it's so ridiculous!), and I just totally appreciate that I can dork-out to Michelle about R being The Best Kylie Boyfriend Ever, No Questions. And she can do the same with me with her hubby and we just make each other laugh. :)

a few derby pictures all in one place...

In the past few months, R has played in derby games that I unfortunately couldn't go to due to work. I'm always super disappointed when this happens, because I really enjoy seeing my sweet, handsome man be so decidedly awesome! (I mean, I get a fair amount of that all the time in our home, but he doesn't get to hit people on roller skates at home, you know?)

Luckily, that's what Facebook is for! There are quite a few photographers who make it out to the games, so there is always a nice selection of pictures uploaded in the days after a game. Below are a few I want to keep in my little blogger treasure box. :)

January 20th, 2013 - Post Apocalyptic Mayhem!
Zombies v. Survivors :)

November 25th, 2012 - Beards v. Buttholes!

Hands down, coolest, most handsome boyfriend ever. :) I finally managed to be able to schedule a day off for his next game, and I'm just so excited!
